This Pocket Geek® Privacy Notice (“Notice”) applies to the Pocket Geek Mobile App and Web Portal. Below are some of the highlights of the Notice:
- We collect your personal information when you register for the Pocket Geek Service, operate the Mobile App, access the Web Portal and interact with a customer support representative for the Service.
- In addition, We may collect information relating to your use of Our Mobile App and Web Portal through the use of various technologies, including cookies.

Pocket Geek Privacy Notice
We are a mobile device troubleshooting Service that helps you address common mobile device issues. We may also offer premium technical support services to select users.
Assurant, Inc. through its affiliated company, The Signal, L.P. (hereinafter, “We”, “Us”, “Our” or “Company”), respects your concerns about privacy. If you reside in the United States, then the personal information provided to or collected by Our Service is controlled by Assurant, Inc., 28 Liberty Street, New York, NY 10005 U.S.A. If you reside outside the United States, then the controller of this personal information may change, and we may update this notice accordingly. You may view a list of data controllers located outside the United States here.
This Pocket Geek Privacy Notice (“Notice”) describes how We will collect, access, use, disclose, retain, transfer, otherwise process and protect personal information when you use Our Pocket Geek service (the “Service”), a service that provides mobile device technical support and troubleshooting assistance, including such premium features as Locate, Lock & Wipe (which allows users to find their mobile device, lock it and/or delete device information), Backup (which permits users to save a copy of their calendar, contacts/address book, call logs, photos, videos, audio recordings [e.g., music], text messages [e.g., SMS and MMS], wallpaper [e.g., background images and graphics], documents contained within their device, and a list of mobile apps on their device), Anti-virus (which notifies users of potential malware), and Remote Mobile Tech Support (such as Tap to Talk which allows users to connect with Our technicians who can provide in-device customer support with your permission), for certain registered Pocket Geek users and information on how to repair common problems that occur in mobile devices that qualify for the Service, through the use of a mobile app that can detect common problems (“Mobile App”) and an internet based portal (“Web Portal”), and applies to your use of the Mobile App and Web Portal. The Service will collect personal information from and through any mobile devices on which the Mobile App is installed including, mobile devices owned or used by your family members under your account, if any, on which you choose to install the Mobile App. You are responsible for such family members’ use of the Mobile App, and represent that you have the authority to permit Us to use the information in accordance with this Notice, including Section 4.1.
We protect your personal information using industry standard safeguards. We may share information about you with your consent or as required by law, and We will always let you know when We make significant changes to this Privacy Notice.
We adhere to the following principles to protect your privacy:

This Notice applies to the Service only and does not necessarily reflect practices with respect to information gathered through other services We offer or websites We operate or the collection of information through off-line means. If you have any concern about providing information to Us or your information being used in any manner permitted by this Privacy Notice and the Terms of Service, you should not download the Mobile App, visit Our Web Portal or otherwise use the Service. If you have already downloaded the Mobile App, you may close your account. See Section 3.1 of this Notice to view how to close your account.
1. What information We collect
Our Privacy Notice applies to any users of the Service. We collect information when users operate Our Service to troubleshoot issues with a mobile device on which the Mobile App has been installed or devices which may be covered under Our premium services.
We collect your personal information in the following ways:
When you create an account with Us, We may collect information (including your name, e-mail address, mobile phone number or password).
We collect personal information when you register for the Service, operate the Mobile App, access the Web Portal and interact with a support representative for the Service. To create an account on Pocket Geek to access certain premium features, and so that We can administer the Service, we may ask users to provide Us with: (i) name, (ii) e-mail address, (iii) mobile phone number or (iv) password, and agree to the Terms of Service and this Privacy Notice. The term “personal information” includes any individually identifiable information about you, such as, your name, e-mail address, mobile phone number, mobile device identification number (e.g., IMEI), Internet Protocol (“IP”) address and password you assign to your Pocket Geek account.
1.2 Personal Information When Using Our Mobile App
When users operate the Service, We may collect information (including contacts/address book, calendar, geo-location data, call logs, bookmarks, text messages [SMS and MMS], photos and videos, wallpaper, installed apps, documents, music/audio recordings, and real-time images). You may request removal of this personal data whenever you like. We also collect information about your usage of the Mobile App.
After you have registered for the Service and the Mobile App has been downloaded, information is collected from the mobile device periodically and stored within Our data center or the data center of a service provider to Us. This information varies depending upon the Mobile App features you may be eligible to use and may include: (a) contacts / address book; (b) calendar; (c) geo-location data; (d) call logs; (e) bookmarks; (f) text messages (e.g., SMS and MMS); (g) wallpaper (e.g., background images and graphics); (h) photos and videos; (i) installed mobile apps; (j) documents; and (k) audio recordings (e.g., music).
We collect this information to provide Backup and Remote Mobile Tech Support services and to operate Our Locate, Lock & Wipe service. You may view certain personal information, and request modification or deletion of your personal information collected by the Mobile App at any time through the Web Portal.
We collect information about your usage of Our Mobile App and may use third party analytics tools to evaluate user actions relative to the Mobile App. For example, when you are logged in on the Mobile App, your usage information will be associated by Us to your account. Even if you are not logged into the Mobile App, We log information about devices used to access Our Service, including mobile device identifier.
Note: Geo-location data - To provide Our Services, consent is obtained from you to derive location information from your wireless operator, certain third-party service providers, or directly from the mobile device on which the Mobile App is installed. This location tracking of the mobile device may occur even when the application is not actively open and running, if the user has enabled location tracking in the settings for the mobile device. Such information may also be stored on the device. You may at any time discontinue these geo-location services by turning off location services on the device or uninstalling the Mobile App. You may also remove your personal information by closing the account. See Section 3.1 of this Notice to view how to close your account.
1.3 Customer Support
We collect information when you contact Us for customer support.
When you contact Our customer support (for example, when you use Our Tap to Talk function), We may access your personal information contained within the Service or your mobile device to respond to your request (e.g., lock your mobile device). We also use this information to track potential issues and trends and customize Our support responses to better serve you. When Our support representative accesses your device for troubleshooting purposes, you understand and acknowledge that while the technician is logged in to your account, she or he can access and extract information (such as settings) from the device. The technician will only access information needed to troubleshoot the device, and once the session is over, the technician will not retain any of the information on his or her screen. With the use of certain premium features, such as Remote Mobile Tech Support, Our technicians may be able to view messages and communications sent to the mobile device while providing support services. We do not use this information for advertising purposes. You may report any problems or security concerns with the Mobile App by contacting customer support or the Web Portal. Our customer support centers are located within and outside of the United States of America and may be operated by Assurant or Our service providers.
1.4 Using the Web Portal
We collect information when you visit Our Web Portal.
We collect information when you use Our Web Portal, and may use third party analytics tools to evaluate user traffic. For example We collect information when you view a page or click on a link. If you are logged in on my.pocketgeek.com, your usage information and the log data described in this Notice, such as your IP address, will be associated by Us to your account. Even if you are not logged into Our Service, We log information about devices used to access Our Service, including IP address.
Our third party partners may employ clear gifs (a.k.a. web beacons), images, and scripts that help them better manage content on Our site. We may combine information from third parties with information gathered through the use of the Service for market research, analysis and trending purposes.
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) signal whereby you may indicate your preference regarding tracking and cross-site tracking. Although We do not currently employ technology that recognizes DNT signals, We will only process your personal information in accordance with this Notice. We engage third parties, such as marketing or analytics partners, who may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use Our sites. Third parties may only send you marketing communications if you have opted into such use. Where required by applicable law, You may request that We not share your information with third parties for these purposes by contacting Us through customer service or the Web Portal.
1.6 Online Advertising
We may collect information about your online activities on Our Web Portal and Mobile App to provide you with advertising tailored to your interests. You may be able to opt out of receiving interest based ads.
We may collect information about your online activities on Our Web Portal and Mobile App to provide you with advertising about products and services tailored to your individual interests. For example, We may use third party advertising features in order to provide you with relevant ads from Us.
You may receive interest-based ads from Us and from Our ad providers that are specifically tailored to your interests. These ads have been selected based on your use of Our Web Portal and Mobile App, including the information you provide to us, as well as other information obtained by Us and Our ad providers. It is also possible that such interest-based advertising has been tailored to the interests that advertisers have inferred from your browsing of Our Web Portal, or from your use of other websites or applications with which a third-party has partnered, in order to provide advertising. Where required by applicable law, your opt-in consent for such processing is obtained.
We also may engage with third-party advertising networks. Ad networks may include third-party ad servers, ad agencies, sponsors, ad technology vendors and research firms. Ad networks may set and access their own cookies, beacons and similar technologies on your device and they may otherwise collect or have access to information about you, including usage information, by tracking your online activities over time and across third-party websites or online services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. These ad networks may use the information they collect for their own purposes. We and Our network advertisers may target advertisements for products and services in which you might be interested based on your visits to both our Web Portal and Mobile App. Such cookies track users who visit websites with which they are affiliated and place ads unrelated to Us.
If you prefer to not receive targeted advertising, you can opt out of some network advertising programs that use your information, such as Google Ads by clicking here. You may also visit the Network Advertising Initiative’s (“NAI”) Opt Out Page. Please note that even if you choose to opt out, you may still see advertisements while browsing, but the advertisements you see may be non-specific. Additionally, many network advertising programs allow you to view and manage the interest categories they have compiled from your online browsing activities. These interest categories help determine the types of targeted advertisements you may receive. The NAI Opt Out Page provides a tool that identifies its member companies that have placed cookies on your browser and provides opt out options with respect to those companies. The NAI opt out may not be effective for mobile applications. Please note that We may also engage with ad networks that do not participate in the NAI Opt Out, and those networks may offer their own opt-out choices.

Our Mobile App or Web Portal may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy and security practices of other websites.
The Mobile App or Web Portal may contain links to other web sites that may have online information practices different from Ours. We are not responsible for the privacy and security practices of those websites, and We encourage you to learn about the privacy and security practices of those web sites if you choose to access and use them.
1.8 Device Information
We collect device information when you use Our Service.
The Mobile App collects and stores device information such as device settings (e.g. Wi-Fi On/Off), device name (e.g., John’s phone), activities (e.g., Bluetooth was disabled), device performance profiles, malware signatures and application/system logs (to detect application crashes and other potentially harmful occurrences). These collected data elements are pulled from your mobile device periodically and stored in a secure location within Our data center or the data center of a service provider to Us.
You may view certain data and delete device information collected by the Mobile App at any time through the Web Portal. You may choose not to share certain data with Us by adjusting settings on the Mobile App. In addition, you may close your account as described in Section 3.1 of this Notice. When you access the Web Portal or the Mobile App, Our servers automatically record certain information about your usage from your mobile device or browser. The servers may securely log information such as web requests, browser type, browser language, referring / exiting pages, platform type, number of clicks, features used and the amount of time spent on particular web pages.
2. How We use and disclose collected information
2.1 Consent to Processing Information about You
You agree that information you provide may be used as described in this Notice and our Terms of Service.
By downloading, accessing or otherwise using the Mobile App and/or Web Portal, you indicated that you have read this Notice and expressly and voluntarily accept the terms of Our Terms of Service and freely consent, on your own behalf and on behalf of any family members you have authorized to use the Service, to Our processing of personal information as set forth in this Notice. Providing any information deemed “sensitive” (such as, health data you may store on your covered device) by applicable law is totally voluntary on your part, but note that, as described in this notice, the Mobile App may collect certain information deemed sensitive from the mobile device when installed. You can withdraw or modify your consent to our collection and processing of information you provide at any time, in accordance with this Notice and the Terms of Service, by modifying your account or by closing your account as described in Section 3.1. If you do not consent to the terms of this Notice, do not download, access or otherwise use the Mobile App.
We collect information from you to provide the Service. We do not sell or rent your personal information.
We do not sell or rent any of your personal information.
The personal information We collect through your interaction with the Service is used to provide the Service, to manage your account for the Service, to manage our business and to improve the Service for yourself and other users of the Service, to develop new products and services, and for other purposes to which you consented. Examples of the above uses include:
- We use the collected information to automatically detect and notify you of potential performance issues with your mobile device (such as insufficient battery charging and exceeding data usage thresholds) and malware (such as known viruses and spyware);
- We may disclose the collected information to third parties to perform business services on Our behalf, which are only authorized to use your personal information as necessary to provide these business services to Us such as Our analytics providers (including but not limited to, market research purposes) or hosting provider;
- Analyze traffic patterns for the Web Portal and resources We host (for example - to help Us improve your user experience); and
- We also use the collected personal information, on an individual and collective basis, to track and analyze preferences and trends to improve the quality of the Service and to evaluate possible new features, functionality and services, and to improve the Service for you (for example - Our Geek Tips, troubleshooting guides, and diagnostic alerts) and other users of the Service.
- We may use the collected personal information to offer you marketing suggestions.
Please note that the account owner for the Service may access all information collected about any copies of the Mobile App running under the Service on devices that the account owner has authorized.
We communicate with you through e-mail, Our Web Portal, text messaging and the Service. We may send you messages relating to the Service and your use of the Service, as well as information about promotions.
We communicate with you through e-mail, Our Web Portal and other means available through the Service, including mobile text messaging (e.g., SMS) and push notifications. Examples of these communications include: (1) welcome and registration communications, (2) service communications, and (3) promotional communications. These messages will be sent to you based on your registration information and messaging preferences. You may change your e-mail and contact preferences at any time by signing into your account and changing your e-mail settings. Opt out: You may also opt out of receiving marketing and promotional messages from Us by using the opt out link in e-mails sent by Us or contacting Customer Support. We will request your consent prior to sending you marketing and promotional messages, where required.
Please be aware that you cannot opt out of receiving Service-related messages from Us.
2.4 Sharing information with affiliates
We may share your information among the Assurant family of companies.
We may share your personal information with Our affiliates (meaning entities controlled by, controlling or under common control with Assurant, Inc.) outside of the Assurant entity that is your data controller (for example, Assurant Canada may share your personal information with Assurant US or other Assurant entities, such as Our parent company, Assurant, Inc.) as reasonably necessary for use in accordance with this Notice. Accordingly, in providing the Service, personal information may be processed in countries where data protection and privacy regulations may not offer the same level of protection as in other parts of the world, such as the European Economic Area (“EEA”). By creating an account, or by using the Service, you consent to the collection and transfer of your personal information to locations outside of the EEA, as described in this Notice.
2.5 Service providers
We may employ third parties to help us with the Service.
We may employ third party companies and individuals to facilitate the Service (e.g. customer support, analysis, audit, application or database hosting, marketing and development). These third parties have limited access to your information only to perform these tasks on Our behalf and are obligated to Us. We do not authorize such third parties to disclose or use it for other purposes. Our service providers are located within and outside of the United States of America. You consent to the transfer of information to service providers located in other jurisdictions that may not provide the same level of legal data protection as the country from which you access and use the Service.
2.6 Compliance with legal process and other disclosures
We may disclose your personal information if compelled by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if necessary to enforce Our Terms of Service.
We may disclose your personal information, as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process; when We believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect Our rights or enforce Our Terms of Service, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request; to any other third party with your prior consent to do so. We may also disclose your personal information, usage information, and other information about you to parties acquiring part or all of Our assets, as well as to attorneys and consultants. Also, if any bankruptcy or reorganization proceeding is brought by or against Us, your information may be considered a company asset that may be sold or transferred to third parties.
2.7 Data processing outside of your country
We may process your information outside the country where you live, including in countries that may not provide the same level of data protection.
Information systems that support the Service and store information collected through the Service are located in the United States of America (“USA”). If you are located outside the USA, please note that the information you provide may be transferred to the USA. The laws of the USA may not provide the same level of legal data protection as the country from which you access and use the Service. By creating an account or using the Service and submitting Personal Information to Us, you consent to such transfers and the processing by Us and Our affiliates and business partners of information as described in this Notice.
3. Your Choices
3.1 Access, correct, delete or limit use of your personal information and Closing your account
You may request access to, modify, correct, delete or limit the use and disclosure, where required by applicable law, of your account information or close your account. You can also request additional information We may have about your account.
You may (1) request access to, modification or correction of, deletion of, or limit the use and disclosure, where required by applicable law, of your personal information controlled by Us or (2) close your account. You can request access to your personal information held by Us, including information that is not viewable through the Web Portal or Mobile App (for example, your IP access logs) through Our customer support center or by sending a written request to us at the address provided in the “Contact Us” section of this Notice. If you close your account(s), your information, including information that has been backed up from your mobile device, will generally be removed from the Service within 24 hours. We typically delete logs and other backup information through the deletion process within 90 days of account closure, except as noted in Section 3.2. You may close your account by visiting https://my.pocketgeek.com/manage-account and clicking on the “Close Account” link. The information available on this link will guide you through the account closure process.
If you think that any personal information We have collected about you is inaccurate, or if you would like to limit the use and disclosure of such information, you may send a reasonable written request for review to Us at the address provided below in the “Contact Us” section of this Notice. We will investigate your request and make appropriate changes or deletions if warranted. We will respond to any reasonable requests for access to personal information in 30 days or as permitted under applicable law.
In certain situations and subject to applicable laws, including data protection laws, We may not be able to provide access to all of the personal information that We hold about you. For example, We may not provide access to information if doing so:
- would likely reveal personal information about a third party;
- could reasonably be expected to threaten the life or security of another individual;
- would reveal Our or third party confidential information;
- includes information that is protected by solicitor or attorney client privilege; or
- includes information that was processed in relation to the investigation of a breach of an agreement or a contravention of a law.
In order to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, We may ask that you provide sufficient information to identify yourself prior to providing access to your personal information.
Depending on the circumstances and applicable laws, We may refuse to process certain access requests.
3.2 Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed. In addition, We may keep certain information even after you close your account if it is necessary to comply with Our legal obligations, meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce this agreement.
We retain personal information you provide while your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We may retain your personal information even after you have closed your account if retention is reasonably necessary to comply with Our legal obligations, meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce this Privacy Notice and Our Terms of Service. We may retain personal information, for a limited period of time, if requested by law enforcement. Our customer support may retain information for as long as is necessary to provide support-related reporting and trend analysis only, but we generally delete or de-personalize closed account data consistent with this Notice. Once personal information is anonymized, We may retain such information as long as We need it for business purposes. Additionally, We maintain logs and backups for security, debugging, and site stability purposes for up to 90 days after your account has been closed.
4. Important Information
4.1 Minimum age
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or such equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction. You must be at least 13 years of age, or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction, to use the Service.
4.2 TRUSTe Privacy Seal Program
We partner with TRUSTe because We respect your concerns about privacy. TRUSTe certifies Our compliance with the TRUSTe program. If you cannot resolve a complaint through Our customer support center, you may also contact TRUSTe.
The Signal, L.P.’s parent, Assurant, Inc., has been awarded TRUSTe’s Privacy Seal signifying that this Notice and practices have been reviewed by TRUSTe for compliance with TRUSTe’s program requirements including transparency, accountability and choice regarding the collection and use of your personal information. The TRUSTe program covers only information that is collected through the Service.
